Rallies
Rallying was the most popular form of motor sport within the club throughout its existence with members taking part in well-known international rallies such as the Monte Carlo Rally and the RAC Round Britain Rally as well as other road rallies at night.
In the 1950s and 1960s the club’s major rally, the March Hare Rally, sometimes lasted over 300+ miles and headed north of London into Essex and Suffolk. The last few March Hare Rallies were a bit shorter and based mostly in Hampshire and Dorset.
In later years a popular series of shorter rallies, the Summer Evening Championship series of five rallies, were about 40 - 45 miles around Surrey finishing at a local pub. Other 12 car rallies took place during the winter and were longer at about 120 miles and travelled further afield. Below are the regulations for the 1969 edition, and the awards list for the 1970 event.
In the early 2000s the club partnered with the local Lions Club to hold a Braille Rally for blind and partially sighted navigators using Braille to define the route to be followed.
